Summary If you want/need to register a .co.uk domain, then you should use 123-reg. For .co.uk domains, it offers lower prices combined with superior, free value-added services than any other domain name registrar. However, consumers should not register any other TLD with this registrar, because 123-reg's prices for other TLDs are way above average and the firm's customer service is abysmal. Services Through 123-reg, you can register the following generic TLDs: .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .mobi, .name and .eu, as well as a wide variety of ccTLDs, including .co.uk, .cc, .tv, as well as many of the European TLDs. The prices for the European TLDs tend to be pretty good; however, the prices for most generic TLDs are way above average. For this reason, GameTLD registers its .co.uk and .eu domains through 123-reg and nothing else! On the positive side, 123-reg's domains do come with a nice selection of free, value-added services, including free domain forwarding, WHOIS privacy and email forwarding. 123-reg's domain name control panel is pretty average. It is extremely cumbersome to use, if you need to manage a large number of domains. Size 123-reg is one of the ten largest domain name registrars with over 1.5 million domains under management and the largest registrar of .co.uk domain names in the world. Customer Support 123-reg is known for having some of the worst support of any major domain name registrar. We have a dozen or so domain names registered with them. We have been unable to even find a customer support phone number through which to test out the phone support, which 123-reg's home page claims the firm offers. The help section and forum is detailed and easy to navigate, but we would not trust any quality domain with a registrar that lacks phone support. Additionally, there are a number of customer service horror stories regarding this domain registrar that have been posted to epnions.com and dnforum.com. Be warned! Room for Improvement (1) 123-reg needs to develop a knowledgeable customer support staff with 365/24/7 phone support. Until they do so, we would not advise registering any domains, except for .co.uk domains (simply because of the low price tag), with this registrar. (2) Similar to Yahoo! Domains, 123-reg needs to develop a more efficient domain control panel with bulk management tools. Currently, it takes an absolutely depressing amount of time to change, for instance, the name servers for even a few domains through 123-reg. |
